Splash and Dash Results April 12th

Friday 12th April saw Gibraltar Triathlon Association hold their first “splash & dash” event at Lathbury.

41 participants took part, in the swim run multi event, It was great to see a great mix of ages and abilities want to take part.

The format on of the race was to start in the pool, swim, exit the pool and walk to the “transition area” done your trainers and run multiple laps around the track.

The whole event exceeded expectations, and enjoyed by all.

We are trying to promote our junior development programme so was amazing we had 14 participants between the age of 10-14

We divided the evening into 3 races:

First up was our male and female ages 10-14 their race consisted of a 200m swim followed by an 800m run: The juniors had no fear the swim was fast, transitions were taken in their stride and all gave 100% on their running resulting in some fast times, the talent of all participants was exciting not only for triathlon but the disciplines themselves.

Alfie Child was unstoppable and led from the start winning the male 10-14 category, followed by his twin brother Freddie, Markos Diamantopoulis came in closely behind rounding up the top 3

For the female category 10-14 Olivia Patterson had a storming run, running herself into first place with  her sister Sophie coming in 2nd and Emily Peat 3rd.

Race 2 was the 15-20 year males and 15-20 females grouped with female adults – this consisted off 200m swim and 1.6k run

Ryan Clinton lead the boys from the start taking 1st position followed by Ehan Borg in 2nd and Ryan Scott in 3rd

The women’s race was great mix of swimmers that run a little or runners that have started swimming so was evenly match over the disciplines.

Charlotte Peat lead from the start and despite getting cramp still managed to come in first and take the top spot. Deborah Imm took 2nd followed but Sara in 3rd.

The last race of the evening was the experienced triathletes which was on for an exciting race,

This was 300m swim followed by a 2k run. We split this between experiences:

Men that competed at the Island Games  2023

Charlie Walker got a clear lead in the swim where no one could keep up getting into transition over 10s in front of 2nd (his dad Chris) Chris was next out the water followed very closely by Sean Randall.

On the track Charlie maintained his lead taking the top spot followed very closely by Phil Macedo who had closed the gap with a fast run. Chris Walker taking 3rd place, as these 3 athletes compete regularly they have just won bragging rights.

Male Adults

Jason Galton dominated this category with a solid swim followed by a very strong run taking the top spot, he was followed by Nicky Podesta in 2nd and Dan an Truong who came out of the water nearly 2min down on the “leading pack” but ran a crazy 2k hunting down and running himself to 3rd place.

The Gibraltar Triathlon Association would like to thank everyone who took part, we thoroughly enjoyed hosting this and seeing how much fun everyone was having.
